Through providing personal care and attention at Marist, we seek to promote these attributes and develop the student's sense of confidence and esteem. We believe that this is best achieved in a strong community setting. Deliberate efforts are made to nurture a family spirit within the school, so that each boy is welcomed, affirmed and supported.
Jesus Christ is central to the life of the school. He is presented to the boys as the model of human life and faith, someone who they should emulate and follow. His values are the foundation of the school's policies and operations. His message of love and compassion is the basis of the attitudes and outlook we challenge the boys to develop.
With the support and cooperation of the family, Marist seeks to provide an integrated and comprehensive program that, for every student, promotes faith, encourages excellence, engenders responsibility and develops respect and dignity.
- Br Peter Corr (Principal). For 125 years, Marist education has helped form boys from the North Shore area into young men who are good Christians and responsible citizens through a comprehensive, quality education in a nurturing community of over 800 students, preparing these boys for an adult life.
Marist has a strong emphasis on all key learning areas, which extends to a broad curriculum for its senior students. The college also offers extension programs and support classes. There is a formalised Gifted and Talented Program, which empowers our academically gifted students to perform and achieve at the highest level through projects run by such partners as the CSIRO. Marist also encourages all students to broaden their skills in co-curricular activities such as drama, music, debating and public speaking, and hospitality, with our commercial class kitchens on campus.
Given our long standing and proud sporting tradition, Marist continues to offer internal, competitive and representative opportunities to all students and believes it is an important facet of the curriculum promoting collaboration, determination and cooperation amongst students.
Recently established vertical tutor groups have enabled a valuable Peer Support Scheme and an effective Mentoring and Leadership Program, which enables senior students to interact with and assist the junior students, ensuring continued pastoral care in addition to the strong support network provided by staff at Marist. Students are exposed to social outreach programs with a key emphasis on community support through the work of many charitable Christian organisations. Furthermore, through the college’s immersion program, senior students travel to less fortunate countries to aid children who suffer from poverty and disability.
At Marist College North Shore, we encourage the family spirit and unity. It is the college’s ultimate aim that, at the conclusion of Year 12, the student takes away with them much more than an exam mark.
